Thanks for checking out our podcast. Expand the topics below for ideas of how to get started, or scroll down to dive right into the episodes!
Since the episodes are not in any particular order (besides launch date), that means you can choose where to start!
You can start with the very first episode and work your way through them all, or filter by difficulty or episode type.
Or simply browse through all of them below until one catches your eye.
Just like a real life conversation, the content of the episodes are not limited to just one learning level. The 3 levels are just to give you an idea of where to start. Make sure to explore several episodes to find the style you like to learn with best.
As you improve, you’ll get more out of every episode each time you listen. Even if you don’t understand most of an episode, the important thing is to keep exposing yourself to the sounds of European Portuguese as much as possible. As your vocabulary and grammar improves, your ear will already be finely tuned to recognize the sounds of the language.
Artigos: To help with your aural comprehension, Rui takes an article and first reads it slowly (so us estrangeiros have a better chance of understanding more of the content!), then reads it again but at normal speed.
Atualidades: These are unscripted, conversational episodes between Rui (Portuguese) and Joel (Canadian). We may choose a theme or news item to explore, and along the way Rui gives Joel grammar and vocabulary tips.
Lendas: These are something of a mix between an Artigo and Diálogo. They are scripted and based on famous Portuguese stories in the time of Kings, Queens and Castles. Almost as exciting as Game of Thrones, but with slightly less production budget ;)
Diálogo: Some are scripted audio sketches, and others are completely unscripted conversations between native speakers. The “Joel vai a…” episodes are a bit easier, and you can put yourselves in the shoes of another non-native trying to navigate different situations in Portugal!
