  • Great shortie. I’ve not come across se calhar (maybe). I have always used talvez. Are se calhar and talvez interchangeable?

  • Li que quando usares “talvez,” tens de usar o conjuntivo, mas quando usares “se calhar,” usas o indicativo. Tá certo?

    • Regra geral, sim – os verbos que vêm imediatamente a seguir à palavra ‘talvez’ estão no conjuntivo, enquanto os verbos que se seguem à expressão “se calhar” estão no indicativo. Mas as frases podem estar construídas de modo a contornar este padrão. Por exemplo:
      – “A minha expressão ou, talvez, as minhas palavras intimidaram-no”. (My expression or maybe my words intimidated him) -> Aqui, “talvez” e “intimidaram-no” estão na mesma frase (sentence), mas pertencem a orações (clauses) diferentes, por isso “talvez” não tem efeito sobre o verbo.
