Hi – lots more to learn in this one thanks 👍. Just one question – “E quando dei por ela” is translated as “Next thing I knew”. I was wondering how the phrase works. Is “dei por ela” referring to the casa de banho? Or is it a phrase that can be used on its own?

Thanks for your comment! “Dar por ela” (or also “dar por isso”) can be used as a fixed idiom as it is, to simply mean “next thing I know”. That’s how it’s used here, not as a reference to the toilet. If used in direct reference to something (usually in the sense of finding it), the ending pronoun should be chosen in line with the implied noun. For example:
– Ontem não encontrava os meus livros. Dei por eles hoje no carro. -> I wasn’t finding my books yesterday. I found them [books] today in the car.
