Comments

  • Thanks again for another great Shortie.

Why do they say ‘Mas queres encontrar-te lá por volta da hora do almoço’ rather than ‘queres encontrar-nos lá’ or ‘queres que nos encontremos lá’?

    Obrigado

    • Obrigado pelo comentário!
The implied phrase is “…queres encontrar-te [comigo] lá…”, where the omission of ‘comigo’ is idiomatic. “Queres que nos encontremos lá?” is also a perfectly correct option, but a bit wordier 🙂 “Queres encontrar-nos lá?” is not an option, because it doesn’t have the proper reflexive use that is needed to convey the sense of meeting up with someone, rather than finding something (which is the default meaning of ‘encontrar’).
