    • People use it in both senses. They most often mean “plenty” or “very”. One usual giveaway that it’s being used as ‘enough’ is that the word is preceded by the definite article ‘o’, as in “o bastante”. Here are some examples:

      Plenty/very/…
      – Este item é bastante caro! (This item is very expensive)
      – Eu tenho bastante tempo. (I’ve got plenty of time)
      – Ela tem bastantes livros. (She has many books)

      Enough/sufficiently
      – Eu ganho o bastante. (I earn enough)
      – Nós trabalhamos o bastante. (We work enough)
