  • Hi. In the expression “Esses banhos de sol só vos fazem é mal”, why is ‘é’ used as well as the ‘fazem’? What is the subject of the sentence and is the subject plural or singular? What is the subject that uses ‘é’? Thanks.

    • Olá 🙂 In the sentence “Esses banhos de sol só vos fazem é mal”, the verb ‘fazem’ is related to the subject ‘esses banhos de sol’, which is plural. The ‘é’ here is used only for emphasis, without having a grammatical function per se. This is an idiomatic use of this verb form. It could easily be omitted without any change in meaning, only tone: “Esses banhos de sol só vos fazem mal”.
