  • Really enjoying this – we live near a bit of the N2 and really love the lazy winding drive to town and out again. But one thing troubles me, why N Dois?
and not Duas? Estrada, Rua, Rota. We look forward to hearing the reason.
    Many thanks.

    • Thank you!
Actually, the 2 relates to number = número (masculine noun). N2 is short for Nacional 2, being Estrada Nacional número 2 = National Road number 2. 🙂

      • Muito obrigado por teres partilhado a solução! Foi muito irritante não compreender a razão. Agora fico descansado!

  • Hi, Thank you for the wonderful shortie! I just have a question regarding the verb form:
In ”Se gosta de viajar devagar e experimentar a vida…”, can ”gosta” be changed to the future subjunctive form ”gostar”. Is there any difference bween using present tense and using future subjunctive in a ”Se…” clause?
    Muito obrigado!

    • Thanks for your comment! Both “gosta” and “gostar” work well here. There’s indeed a nuance in perception – the simple present “gosta” sounds direct and it’s more factual than hypothetical, as if you were already assuming (or you already knew) that the person does like it. The future subjunctive “gostar” is subtler and more embracing of the uncertainty/possibility that is typical of the subjunctive mood.
