1
00:00:03,206 –> 00:00:06,876
Mauro: Caramba, esta IKEA é mesmo grande.
{{Mauro: Boy, this IKEA is really big.}}
2
00:00:07,446 –> 00:00:12,576
{{Óscar: Yeah it is. It’s also the cheapest place to buy furniture for our house.}}
3
00:00:13,016 –> 00:00:14,630
Mauro: Do que é que precisamos?
{{Mauro: What do we need?}}
4
00:00:15,166 –> 00:00:18,376
{{Óscar: First of all, a bed for the bedroom.}}
5
00:00:19,116 –> 00:00:21,011
Mauro: Vamos comprar uma cama de casal?
{{Mauro: Are we going to buy a double bed?}}
6
00:00:21,536 –> 00:00:25,900
{{Óscar: Of course, or do you think we’re going to both sleep in a single bed?}}
7
00:00:26,486 –> 00:00:30,997
Mauro: Não me incomoda.
{{Mauro: It doesn’t bother me. You know I always have cold feet.}}
8
00:00:31,586 –> 00:00:35,435
{{Óscar: We also need a bedside table and a closet.}}
9
00:00:36,076 –> 00:00:41,598
{{Mauro: You’re going to put a lamp on the nightstand and spend the night reading, aren’t you?}}
10
00:00:42,166 –> 00:00:46,682
{{Óscar: I’m glad you reminded me. We have to buy a bookcase for my books.}}
11
00:00:47,226 –> 00:00:48,441
Mauro: Onde é que ela vai ficar?
{{Mauro: Where is it going to go?}}
12
00:00:49,196 –> 00:00:54,044
Óscar: Se calhar é melhor pôr na sala. Assim compro um cadeirão e leio lá.
{{Óscar: Maybe we should put it in the living room. Then I’ll buy an armchair and read there.}}
13
00:00:54,556 –> 00:00:59,195
Mauro: Precisas mesmo de um cadeirão? Não podes ler no sofá?
{{Mauro: Do you really need an armchair? Can’t you read on the couch?}}
14
00:00:59,826 –> 00:01:01,970
Óscar: Eu exijo um cadeirão!
{{Óscar: I demand an armchair!}}
15
00:01:02,446 –> 00:01:05,227
Mauro: Pronto, está bem! Chiça…
{{Mauro: Okay, fine! Geez…}}
16
00:01:05,796 –> 00:01:09,393
{{Óscar: For the living room, we’ll need some chairs and a table.}}
17
00:01:10,016 –> 00:01:13,935
Mauro: Uma mesa para quê? Não podemos jantar na cozinha?
{{Mauro: A table for what? Can’t we have dinner in the kitchen?}}
18
00:01:14,556 –> 00:01:19,427
{{Óscar: No. We’re not animals. The kitchen table will be smaller.}}
19
00:01:20,176 –> 00:01:23,375
{{And we still have to buy a cupboard to store the dishes.}}
20
00:01:24,166 –> 00:01:27,226
{{And some shelves to store food in the pantry.}}
21
00:01:27,806 –> 00:01:30,703
Mauro: Ok… Mais alguma coisa?
{{Mauro: Ok… Anything else?}}
22
00:01:31,326 –> 00:01:34,516
Óscar: Hmm… Ah, um espelho para o quarto.
{{Óscar: Hmm… Ah, a mirror for the bedroom.}}
23
00:01:35,336 –> 00:01:39,288
{{And a chest of drawers too, which is more useful for storing underwear.}}
24
00:01:39,816 –> 00:01:45,396
Mauro: Então vá, vamos lá procurar as coisas.
{{Mauro: Then come on, let’s go look for things. How the hell do you get around here?}}
25
00:01:45,856 –> 00:01:48,684
Óscar: Não sei. Isto parece um labirinto.
{{Óscar: I don’t know. This is like a labyrinth.}}
Hi,
I was wondering why it’s “se calhar é melhor pôr” rather than the personal infinitive which I think would be “pormos”?
I have a terrible time with the personal infinitive. And also with the subjunctive! It makes me scared to speak!
Thank you for your help
Debbie
Olá, Debbie. We often use the personal and impersonal infinitive interchangeably-ish – after all, they’re two variations of the same thing. The personal infinitive may be specifically required in cases where you are dealing with different subjects across sentences/clauses and it’s important to differentiate between them, but that’s not the case here, where the only subject (“we”) is clear in context. By the way, don’t be afraid to speak! Definitely allow yourself to make mistakes and to let people correct them (if they’re willing to) – it’s how we learn 🙂
Thanks, Joseph.
Hi, I have some question about ” não me incomoda”.
It means ” both options also is ok for me”??
It means “It doesn’t bother me” or “I don’t mind”, as in he doesn’t have any problem sleeping in a single bed.
