  • Hello there! In the sentence “Ao chegar ao aoo, elas dirigiram-se …”, don’t we need to use “chegarem” instead of “chegar”? Why? Thanks!

    • It’s fine either way 🙂 Both are forms of the infinitive: chegar is the impersonal infinitive and chegarem is the personal infinitive. The personal infinitive can be necessary in cases where you are dealing with different subjects and it’s important to differentiate between them, but that’s not the case here, where the two verbs refer to the same subject.

  • Hi there! Why do we use “Embora ache que ele iria …” instead of “Embora acho que iria …”? What’s the difference? Thanks!

    • Olá! It’s a structural thing – the word embora asks for the subjunctive (conjuntivo) mood, so we have to write ache (present subjunctive) instead of acho (simple present/indicative).
