My dictionary gives a different spelling: ‘berinjela’.
It’s always written beringela in European Portuguese. Berinjela is an alternative spelling valid only for Brazil 🙂
Ok, so the ´oxford essential portuguese dictionary’ I downloaded is feeding me brasilian spellings… carrumba!
