Party Guests

Isabel goes to a party where she doesn’t know anyone, so Eduardo tells her about each of the guests.

    • Olá 🙂 Adding the definite article “as” has a subtle effect in the meaning. With “não são tuas amigas”, you’re just asking “Aren’t you friends?”. With “não são as tuas amigas”, it’s almost as if you were asking “Aren’t these your friends?”, as opposed to other people. In the first case, the likely answer is “Yes, we’re friends” or “No, we’re not friends”. In the second case, the answer might very well be “No, my friends are those other two girls”, for example.
