  • In the United States, I have seen a long-overdue, welcome, and dramatic transformation in the support of LGBT+ rights among the mainstream of society, including those of older generations – especially in the last 10 – 15 years. There is some backlash among some segments of the society. But, while not universal, it is certainly mainstream now in the U.S. to be in favor of equal rights for all regardless of sexual orientation. Has the same transformation happened in Portugal? What is the state of LGBT+ rights now in Portugal – both legally and in practice?

  • Olá,
    I have a question concerning the text at 01:45: „Vejo muitos sem-abrigo nas ruas…“
Would saying „Vejo muitos sem-abrigos nas ruas…“ also be right?

    Thank you!

  • “ pessoas com deficiências tem lugares estacionamento reservado”

Can one say “As pessoas”. And why not -estacionamentos reservados Plural?

    Thanks

    • The most correct way of saying this would be “As pessoas com deficiência têm lugares de estacionamento reservados”.
      – “Deficiência” should be singular, as in “qualquer tipo de deficiência” (“any type of disability”). “As pessoas com deficiências” would sound a little rude, as to say “People with disabilities” instead of saying “Disabled people” (“Pessoas com deficiência”).
      – “de estacionamento” (“parking”) refers to “lugares” (“spots”): lugares de estacionamento = parking spots / spots for parking. That’s why it’s used in it’s singular form. Only “lugares” and therefore “reservados” is pluralized.
      – Both “Pessoas” and “As pessoas” are correct! It may depend on context.
However, “As pessoas com deficiência têm lugar de estacionamento reservado” could also work, since the number of parking spots are not specified.
