I’ve listened to “O meu desporto favorito é o futebol” 30 times and still can’t hear him say the word desporto. Is a lot of it silent?
It’s not silent, but vowels do tend to get “swallowed up” in connected speech. So it almost sounds like ‘meu dshport favorit’

It’s confusing at first, but over time with more listening practice you’ll start to hear the words more clearly.
What is the difference in usage between visto que and desde?
“Visto que” means “since” in the sense of “because”. “Desde” means “since” in the sense of “from the moment when”. So, even though the English translation is the same, they actually don’t overlap at all 🙂

Olá, Diarmuid. Good question! In those cases, you are looking at imperfect tense conjugations, but they are actually acting as de facto conditional forms. So, instead of referring to the past, both of those sentences are describing hypothetical situations. “Era o meu sonho” corresponds to “Seria o meu sonho”; “Gostavas de ter uma carreira no futebol?” corresponds to “Gostarias de ter uma carreira no futebol?” This is one of the ways in which the imperfect tense can be used, and you always have to pay attention to context to know when it’s being used like that. Of course, the English subtitles in the Shorties also help 🙂
