I could understand nearly all of this! Loved this shortie, thanks for your constant work to keep making content. I am learning so much!
So I’m a little confused here.
“Um dia, ela vai surpreender a ___ família com a comida dela”
The quiz says the right answer is “sua” as in “yours”, but the whole time she’s talking about her family. Shouldn’t the asnwer be “dela” or am I missing something?
Good question 🙂 As explained in this Learning Note about possessives, ‘seu’ and ‘sua’ are third-person possessives, and can mean ‘her’, ‘his’ or ‘their’. Additionally, since our formal treatment for the 2nd-person singular also uses a third-person framework, ‘seu’ and ‘sua’ can also mean ‘your’, like you said. So, all these options are possible at any given time, depending on context. Here, the context is clearly about her family (third-person singular), so there’s no ambiguity with using ‘sua’. The challenge in this exercise is understanding that although ‘dela’ would also be a perfectly valid alternative, the placement of ‘dela’ is different from that of ‘sua’, so only the latter is correct in the provided sentence.
Why doesn’t she like our British food? 😂😂😂
