I relate to Joel as a learner and having Rui speak more than a phrase at a time so you hear the language flow but still getting an opportunity to slow down, make corrections and give insight or correct Joel has been so helpful. Obrigado! Grateful I saw PP on my flight to/from Portugal in October. I’d gotten pimsleur a while back and got literally 7 minutes into it and stopped – I couldn’t figure out how those sounds were being made and what combination of letters did that. With PP I get that and much more – the humor in your program is so welcome! I’m studying daily and feel like I’ll at least get a decent handle on it reasonably soon…

My husband and I are LOVING PracticePortuguese.com and are CONSISTENTLY impressed with the content (omg there is so much of it) and the very effective, learning-supportive design. We love the flash cards and how all the information is presented and laid out in general. I also appreciate that there are people there helping us out. It really feels more like a community versus just some impersonal program we are just doing. If only EVERY language had a program like PracticePortuguese! Of the MANY things I’ve noticed, one of the most effective in terms of motivation is the green bar across the top of the screen when I’m doing flash cards. I love that it JUMPS forward every time I get one right. It just makes it feel like I’m progressing….versus slogging through the mud of learning a new language.

It’s Thanksgiving here in the U.S., and I’m taking stock in what I’m thankful for — and one big thing is Practice Portuguese. I started learning in June, after years of frustration after going to Portugal as a Portuguese-American tourist and having to order my pasteis de nata and Sagres in English. When I started learning earlier this year, I was in kind of a personal rut, exhausted after a year of COVID. Learning Portuguese with you was a turning point in my 2021. It gave me something to feel positive about. And I’m so thankful for that. I’m so thankful in fact that I’m planning a trip to Portugal…I am looking forward to ordering my first pastel de nata and Sagres em Português.

The quality of the content is just very high. I loved being able to play a vocabulary word over and over again in both slow and fast speeds. I loved the conversations and presence of both male and female speakers. Additionally, Rui is a fantastic teacher. Having learned a few languages, this probably the best platform I’ve ever seen.

I don’t know where to begin, the platform is amazing! I love everything about it. Especially useful to have something that focuses on European Portuguese and allows speaking practice (that function of repeating the sentences is what I found most helpful). I think having both a native and non-native Portuguese teacher works really well and makes for really good explanations (and also encouraging to see evidence that a non-native really can make those sounds one day!). The podcasts and listening practice exercises are really good, anything with transcripts is really helpful. The topics are very interesting/ entertining. I find the grammar explanations excellent, the review thing is great (though that could be improved, eg. options to review different aspects of the language covered, e.g. nouns, grammar, verb tenses, expressions, rather than everything all at once). In terms of user experience, top marks – really good design you have clearly put a lot of effort into it. Excellent use of humour to make the learning experience entertaining without watering things down or ignoring the boring but necessary aspects of learning a language. There is so much more, but I’ll stop here. I am a former language teacher myself and came to the platform with really high demands/ expectations – these were met in every respect.
