When it’s time to speak or to listen, or to understand why you’re saying what you’re saying, or to go deeper into the language, PP is the way to go. Nothing else like it is out there. Duolingo won’t teach you any of these things. In particular, the shorties are really, really helpful. I listen to them over and over again at .7 speed, translation on, to hear how the sentences really sound, and go back to repeat individual sentences. You can’t get that anyplace else, and it is immeasurably helpful. So I say, use both. They both most definitely have their places. But PP will be your main tool for really getting at the learning of Portuguese.

This is by far the BEST language learning app I have ever experienced. I have just started…and I am already feeling somewhat confident (pronunciation is a killer!) and practicing what I have learned! Please, please, please share this language learning method with other European language platforms – it really is a game changer. I have studied French, Spanish, Italian, German, and Latin (in school and with learning apps like Pimsleur, Rosetta Stone and Babble)….and briefly studied Japanese with a private tutor (for travel) – and this method is by far the best I have ever encountered – after only four days practicing on the website (granted with a romance language background) I feel that I could now go into a cafe and reasonably (with mistakes) order a meal and be polite at the same time. And – I’m having so much fun!!! Kudos to you!

I agree wholeheartedly with the many comments praising the lessons and rating the app as the best for learning European Portuguese. One of my favorite features is the microphone to check your pronunciation, very good feedback as it is often challenging early on to get certain sounds correctly. I also enjoy the option of Slow Audio to help distinguish similar or hard to pronounce sounds. And finally the variety of speakers in the videos is very helpful in developing an ear for Portuguese. It all makes it easier to carry on through the difficulties of learning a new language…One more thing…5/5 stars for your excellent customer service.

I want to thank you this excellent web site for studying Portuguese. I have quite some experience in using computer aided language learning…but I never saw anything as well done as this.
First, the concept is exactly the right one. It has everything a good self-study solution should have. In particular, I want to mention the flash cards nicely integrated with the rest of the course; a very useful feature…Even the system to checking my pronunciation is working fairly well.
In addition, it is pleasant to use…I have used it daily for 3 months now…If there was a Noble prize for achievements in education, I would nominate you.

I think there is nothing better than listening to your podcast during my morning walk. It is like a gust of fresh Portuguese culture. My husband and me have gone twice to Portugal for a month each time. Last time I tried to talk as much as I could with whoever I met on the street.People must have thought I was crazy 
. Of course it is easier if your first language is Spanish. I have to admit that I was surprised to see how well I was communicating by the end of our stay…You make such a great team! Excellent teachers! A very entertaining class and I love that you make listeners part of your personal life.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for making this site. This is hands-down THE BEST resource for learning European Portuguese. My husband and I are moving to Lisbon in a few months, and while the written part is close enough to spanish that I can kinda get by, the pronunciation is baffling! I was using Duolingo (which is only brazilian)…but I really wish I had this before then, since now I have to *unlearn* all of the pronounciations and words they use there but not in PT. The format is fun, the practice lessons and smart reviews are fun, and the CONTEXT your site provides for the language and culture in Portugal is absolutely invaluable…This website is a godsend, and the friendly way it’s written makes it a joy to practice with.

Practice Portuguese is a phenomenal learning platform – the passion and energy that has been invested in the site is evident! I first started using Practice Portuguese back in 2018 and the progress that the site has made in these four years has been nothing short of incredible. Thank you!
What stood out to me was the top notch customer service. I remember posting a grammatical question in the comment section of a shorty episode. I didn’t think that I would get a response, but to my surprise, a staff member ended up writing out an excellent ,detailed explanation of the personal infinitive! On another occasion, I messaged …about a technical glitch and within an hour, Joel had responded!

I learned a lot of Portuguese from this platform in just 2.5 months. It was a great help for a bike tour in Portugal on the Rota Vicentina that I did last month. The Portuguese guide and the group were really impressed with how much I had learned.
I think it is great that you can jump around to other levels and units without having to complete prior ones. That is a great help for someone who is using this as a refresher, or for someone who already speaks other romance languages (e.g. French) and is trying to hone in on the differences in Portuguese.
