I cannot say how many times I’ve tried to teach myself a new language without any hint of satisfactory progress (even with Portuguese some 30 years ago) but this time it’s working and I’m beginning to feel confident that I’m getting a solid grounding. I thoroughly enjoyed the chemistry and interactions between, the creators, Joel and Rui. I found the translator helpful at times, on the spot! I also enjoyed you’re use of street scenes that would be similar to realistic encounters. I found the videos humorous and useful, and also found the dryer subjects were brought to life – such as learning about grammar, pronunciation or nuances of the Portuguese language. Overall, I found this to be an extremely positive experience and most helpful leading up to and first five months in Portugal. Thank you for bringing the Portuguese language to life for me – I am comfortable speaking the language daily and do not mind not being precise each time I speak.

The shorties are so helpful and an amazing learning tool. The quality of the audio and the scrolling translation, vocabulary, and expressions are better than anything I have ever seen (in any language). Eliana, Rui, Joseph and others are so good that they sound like professional voice actors. That voice acting quality makes a big difference, and is just a pleasure to listen to.

Absolutely fantastic platform (from a beginner’s and linguist’s perspective)… I think you can be bigger and better than DuoLingo. I love the method of adding words in sentences, being able to listen slowly, adding it to the review section, and I guess shorties and podcasts are my personal favourite because it helps with comprehensible input. The playback function to check pronunciation is an added bonus but everything is very well structured and easy to navigate. I like that you can choose to practice verbs as a separate link. This is an unbelievably brilliant language study programme. I’d done the first few modules and then left it a few months (through laziness, mainly) and was sure I’d have to start from scratch when I took it up again. Not so. There had been so much consolidation in the early modules that, even if I didn’t understand everything in the later modules, I had the right tools to work it out and found I didn’t have to go back to the beginning and start again. I had 18 months of very expensive Portuguese lessons at a university 10 years ago and have learnt far more using this app than I ever did in the face to face classes. I was also convinced Portuguese was an impossible language that I would never be able to learn but this app has made it seem possible – even easy – so thank you for showing me a better way. I would recommend this app to anyone.

Typical English and never spoke another language in my life…My tutor recommended I had a look at this site last week. First impressions…. wow!…. not seen anything else like it and so real and personal with the passion of a couple of guys with a very obvious passion and skill. I am blown away, to be honest. I find myself on this site more than any of the others and for good reasons… it’s so well thought out and put together and I love that the words and phrases are read by a human and the read-back feature to see if I am saying it correctly is a killer feature, to be honest. The site is fully packed with so much content I was a little unsure where to start. I finally got started with the very first option on the menu LEARN/Units. It’s great how everything is explained in plain English(excuse the pun) and position what your learning into real-life situations.
