Practice Portuguese is the best foreign language program I have ever encountered in my 76 years and I have studied seven or eight mostly European languages beyond the tourist stage…Rui and Joel should be awarded Distinguished Citizen awards for their contribution to foreign language learning.
Translation on or off

I have had an incredible journey since I first found PP. My love affair with Portugal stated 30+ years ago but has been enhanced since I started to work with PP and I now can do so many things using my newly acquired language skill…many Portuguese comment favorably on my attempts with the language…I can generally make myself understood and better still have a really good understanding of the written word.

It was so refreshing to find your website to learn european portuguese. It is amazing what you have been able to build so far, the website has so many features and I am really impressed.
Things I really like:
– The personal touch in the media content that you offer (video’s, podcasts etc.)
– The grammar explanations. They are well-structured and not just flat text.
– The control you have over Smart Review items
– The word clarifications in superscript. They make it very clear what the exact meaning of a sentence is.
– The galo mascotte

I just returned from my first trip to Portugal. For fun, I started learning Portuguese about 6 months ago and found out that resources for European Portuguese were very limited. Then, I found your app. I was hesitant to pay at first but decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did. This app is wonderful. The lessons are perfect and I loved the dialogues at the end of every lesson.
I want you to know that I was so shocked at how well I was able to communicate with the Portuguese during my trip…I was able to order food in Évora when our waiter didn’t speak any English and ask about the menu without problems. I was able to ask for help at the train station when we got confused. I had a taxi rider who didn’t speak English and I was able to talk to him.
In addition, I loved how excited the Portuguese people were when I spoke to them in their native language. I even got a compliment from a waitress who said I was the only American she had ever met who took the time to learn Portuguese to visit her country.

Super learning. Way better than duolingo or…. what I used for 2-3 years. The way how the lessons and items are presented are much more embedded in the daily use, practise listening, speaking, writing and understanding.

I spent 1-2 hours every day for 5 months studying with the PracticePortuguese app and it REALLY made a difference in my trip to Lisboa and Fatima…Your lessons were extremely valuable in me translating things to my family! We would have never gotten a train ticket without my vocabulary; we would have missed many great written quotes and facts at the museums and religious sites we visited had you not trained me in the language…Thanks for teaching me Portuguese!

With a few weeks of Practice Portuguese under my belt, I found I was able to decipher many words and some phrases on my own. It encouraged me to know I am on the right track. Still a long way off from fluency, but a little closer each day.

I’m a relative newbie to the site but I just have to tell you that you guys are amazing. Not only is the customer support outstanding and the way the lessons and all the other learning tools are set up but also the podcast. I know they’ve had complaints about speaking English during the podcast, but for me, it makes it so much more approachable. I love the guys and their sense of humor. I’ve use a lot of different platforms, and this is by far the most helpful in my opinion
